Convenience stores are notorious for making you pay a hefty price. Sometimes you can find great deals at convenience stores and there are ways you can even get things for free.

Let’s take a look at what to look for and how to save when shopping at convenience stores.

Freebies

Many convenience stores such as QuikTrip, 7-Eleven and Circle K have mobile apps. Be sure to download the app for the stores you visit. They have freebie deals that they post in their apps all the time.

They know if they get you in the store, you’ll likely buy more so it’s not uncommon to see offers for a free drink or a buy one get one free deal. You should also follow them on social media as they will post deals and freebies there as well.

Another item you may be able to get for free is the Sunday paper. Once Sunday is gone, they generally hold on to them for about a week. After that week, they may give them to you. Why would you want a week-old paper? COUPONS!

Discounts

Aside from getting things absolutely free, there are a number of ways you can save when shopping at convenience stores. One surprising deal that you can get every day is buying milk. Most stores offer fresh donuts and warm breakfast items. After 9 or 10 a.m. they will offer discounts on those items as they are served fresh every day.

Always take your own cup when you want a fountain drink. You’ll save on average about 25 cents per refill. If you need ice, many stores will let you fill any cup with ice for free and sometimes you can get them to let you fill a small cooler!

If you need a snack, look for the buy two deals. Often, you can buy one item for a certain amount but when you buy two, you’ll save money. Another great place to look for your snacks is the clearance counter or bin.

These are generally found near the front of the store by the checkout as they want to sell the clearance items as quickly as possible.
