Save by Making Your Own Reusable Products

Making the switch from disposable products to reusable products is easier than you think and can help you save a ton of money. Even better, you can make these reusable products right at home for next to nothing and continue to save, day after day.

The best thing about reusable products is that they also help the environment as well!

Paper Towels

Never buy paper towels again! Make your own by using your existing towels and rags. If you simply can’t break away from the convenience of having a paper towel holder – adding a little velcro is a great option that can help you mimic the same ability.

All  you need to do is attach velcro to the ends of the rags, piece them together and then roll them up around your already existing paper towel holder.  Use the cloth towels and then wash them afterward – don’t dispose of them!

Cleaning Wipes

Cleaning wipes are such a convenience that it’s one thing I just didn’t want to give up. Unfortunately, they are very expensive to buy week after week. The better option is to stop buying them and make your own with this very simple recipe.

Grab some old rags, t-shirts or linens and cut them into the sizes you prefer. Next, find a container with a lid – this can even be one of your existing Lysol Wipes or Wet One’s containers, but any container will work.

Mix 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and a ½ tablespoon of dishwashing soap. Place your rags into the container and pour the liquid over them. You can add a few drops of essential oil if you want to add a favorite scent!

Buy Reusable

Other items you could purchase to turn into reusable versions that will save you a ton of money include:

  • Replace paper napkins with cloth napkins
  • Never buy straws again – buy stainless steel or silicone straws that will last far longer
  • Use a refillable water cup instead of buying bottled water
  • Make or buy wool dryer balls to replace dryer sheets
  • Buy reusable silicone sandwich bags instead of plastic disposable bags

There are a ton of great resources to save money, but replacing everyday disposable products with reusable products is one of the easiest things you can do.

You’ll start saving money the very moment you stop throwing things in the trash!
